DR Yahya Gibril Kaloko

Dr. Yahya Kaloko was born and raised in the Northern part of Sierra Leone, Magburaka Township. He completed his elementary and high school education in Magburaka and proceeded to the Milton Margai College of Education and Technology in Freetown, Sierra Leone where he completed pedagogical studies in Business Methods and Technology in 1982.

He briefly served as high school instructor at the Lunsar Islamic High School from 1982 through 1984 where he taught pre-college entry courses in Business Management and Economics. During winter school breaks from 1982 through 1984 he served as Team Leader for the Voluntary Work Camps Association, Sierra Leone. As leader, he supervised both foreign and local teams in many community development projects in the country, notably in the Northern and Eastern Provinces, as well as the Western Rural District.

He was subsequently hired by the Austro-Mineral Iron Ore Mining Company, Sierra Leone, to manage expatriates and local senior staff residential housing estate in Lunsar.

He moved to Freetown in 1985 at the closure of mining operations in Lunsar and served as Deputy Executive Director at the Organization for the Homeless, Disabled, and Rural Agriculture Development, Sierra Leone (OHDRAD, SL).

In 1987 he left Sierra Leone for further studies in the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR), Ukraine Republic where he completed MSc. Studies in Economics and Accounting at the Kharkov State University of Engineering and Technology. He later moved to London, England in 1993 and eventually relocated to the United States of America in 1995.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1995 through 2003 performing both sea and shore duties in Financial Management. He deployed a couple of times on military campaigns in the Middle East, Asia, and parts of Europe. On shore duty in Washington, DC, he served as Special Assistant to the Deputy Director of Navy Staff on Navy Uniforms and Military Civilian Clothing matters.

He joined the US Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census in 2003 where he performed Budget Planning and Financial Management functions. He oversaw program budgets planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation.

As Operations Manager for IOY, Dr Kaloko enhances the smooth running of the organization’s activities and procedures to boost community participation in productive enterprise and efficiency.

As Country Manager, Dr. Kaloko is involved in developing and implementing adaptive strategies geared to local needs in health and sanitation, nutritional needs, and education within Sierra Leone.

In addition to the academic credential highlighted above, Dr Yahya Kaloko also has an MBA specializing in Acquisition from Strayer University, an MBA from Regis University Denver, CO, and Doctorate with concentration in Management and Organizational Management and Change. He also has a series of professional qualifications in Procumbent, Inter-Agency Agreements (IAAs) for Program Managers and COTRs, Budgeting and Accounting, US Federal Appropriations Law, and Program and Budget Analysis. He also has a certificate in US Naval Leadership.
